To every child with ADHD: You are not a problem to fix
Posted for International ADHD Awareness Day, 13 July
You belong here. Exactly as you are.
You might hear it from classmates, teachers, strangers... Even from people who love you, but don’t understand:
“Why can’t you just sit still?”
“Why are you always talking?”
“Why don’t you try harder?”
“You’ll grow out of it.”
“It’s not even real.”
But I’m here to tell you, loudly and clearly:
You are not broken. You are beautifully wired.
. . .
You are not alone
ADHD is real.
It is how your brain is wired to process the world – sometimes louder, faster, more intensely.
It means your thoughts might sparkle and scatter like fireworks.
It means you might feel everything – joy, anger, wonder, frustration – big and fast.
It means that school might be harder sometimes.
That forgetting things, starting things, or stopping things can be exhausting.
But it doesn’t mean you’re lazy. It doesn’t mean you’re bad.
It means your brain works differently.
And different is not less.
. . .
You are capable
Your brain is a storm of possibility.
You are imaginative.
You notice details others miss.
You feel things deeply.
You ask questions no one else thinks to ask.
You’re not distracted – you’re curious.
Some of the world’s most brilliant, creative and compassionate people have ADHD.
So do some of the most resilient, hilarious, and brave ones.
ADHD is not a flaw. It’s a kind of fire.
Learn how to tend it, and it will light your path.
. . .
You are loved, exactly as you are
Whether you finish the worksheet or not.
Whether your room is tidy or chaotic.
Whether you forgot something again or said the wrong thing or got up when you shouldn’t have…
You are loved. Not for what you do.
But for who you are.
You are not “too much.”
You are just enough of everything that makes you, you.
. . .
To every kid with ADHD, read this out loud:
📣 I am not a failure.
📣 I am not annoying.
📣 I am not lazy.
📣 I am learning how my brain works.
📣 I am full of potential.
📣 I am allowed to take my time.
📣 I am allowed to ask for help.
📣 I am proud of who I am becoming.
📣 I am deeply, deeply loved.
. . .
And to the world: It’s time we do better
Stop shaming these kids.
Start supporting them.
Stop expecting them to “fit in.”
Start meeting them where they are.
Stop dismissing what you don’t understand.
Start listening.
Because every child with ADHD deserves to feel:
✅️ Seen
✅️ Heard
✅️ Understood
✅️ Celebrated
✅️ Safe
. . .
💌 To my firstborn, and every child like you:
You don’t need to be “fixed.”
You need to be believed in.
I see you. I cheer for you. I thank God for you. Not despite your ADHD, but with it!
So on this International ADHD Awareness Day, we don’t just raise awareness.
We raise you – higher. With love, with support, and with open arms.
